Becoming 'that girl'

Becoming 'that girl' is all about taking baby steps and incorporating habits into your daily life that build up to create a routine that benefits you both mentally and physically.

Remember to be gentle with yourself. Not everything is going to happen over night, but lets start with these steps:

  • Wake up before 8 am every morning.

You know what they say... early bird catches the worm. Waking up early helps you start the day right, but also gives you the opportunity to get lots of simple tasks done in the morning that will make you feel accomplished.

Start by getting up 5 minutes earlier so that you can make your bed. A messy space means a messy head, start by making sure your bed is made, the dishes are unloaded from the dishwasher and your space is clear.

Waking up earlier also encourages you to make a healthier breakfast. When we are rushed in the morning or have had a sleep in, we are more likely to make unhealthier choices for breakfast as our bodies crave sugar and comfort food. Use this time to make a smoothie bowl, a protein shake, oats, eggs on toast or a chia seed pudding.

  • Put on your activewear

If you are planning on working out in the morning, put your activewear on as your first outfit of the day. Wearing activewear subconsciously gets your mind into the space of working out. You know that you're not changing until you have gone to your pilates session, your yoga class, the gym or your hot girl walk. Get yourself motivated

  • Walk to your local cafe

If you enjoy getting a coffee or a matcha in the morning, we encourage you to find a cafe that is relatively close to you and walk there. Getting your morning or afternoon steps in is so good for your mental and physical health... plus, who doesn't love having a reward at the end of their walk

  • Start every morning by planning out your day

The ultimate 'it girl' is organised. She knows what she's doing for the day, has her to-do list ready and is determined to get it all checked off. Without scheduling in your day and your head will be scrambled and it's less likely anything will get done. Time block so that you are the most productive version of yourself. Schedule in your movement session so you actually go and remember not to forget your 'me time'.

  • Follow a balanced diet

An 80/20 diet is key. Don't deprive yourself of the foods that you enjoy, but simply see your body as something that needs to be nourished daily and make better food choices. Find greens that you enjoy the taste of, or make the effort to hide them in your pasta sauces. Eating fruit and vegetables gives your body so many vitamins and antioxidants that it needs to thrive and also helps your skin to glow. I like to provide my body with lots of healthy food during the week and eat my favourite, more indulgent meals at the weekend. And remember, don't skip meals. Food is fuel.

  • Move your body every day and find a work out that you enjoy

So many of us will be told about different workouts and why they're the 'best'. The best work out method for you is the one that you enjoy the most. You simply may just enjoy putting in your headphones and walking for an hour where you find time. Walking is so healthy for you mentally and physically and is definitely a great way to move your body daily. Pop on your favourite podcast or artist and strut it like you're on a catwalk. My personal favourite is pilates. I started weight training because I had been told online it was the best thing to do, but the truth is, I dreaded going to the gym because I didn't enjoy it. I was unmotivated and I was only there because I felt like I had to be. I would find any excuse to not go and found that I was exercising less because of it. Once I found pilates and fell in love with it, I now get excited to go every morning, it's definitely my favourite part of my day. Find something that you love.

  • Meditate, journal or yoga

It is really important that daily we take some time to ourselves. Being off technology, with ourselves and into our minds. We can get so distracted about what is going on around us and in other peoples lives that we forget to talk to ourselves and how we are feeling. Once you learn to calm your mind daily through meditation, journalling or a yoga session you will find that you're more at peace and appreciate yourself more. Journalling your thoughts is also a really great way to get your emotions out on paper instead of bottling them up and holding onto them, effecting other things in your life.

  • Read/listen to a podcast

That girl is always bettering herself and finding new ways to learn. No matter how much you think you do, you don't know everything. Be open to learning something new every day or work on your mind. Podcasts and books are a really good way to learn a new skill, give yourself some personal development, build a business or become educated on a topic your are interested in.

Reading also allows you to turn off your phone (we recommend also placing it in a different room), and have some time off of social media. If you don't have time to read for an hour, put on a podcast on your way to and from work. These small differences for an hour a day instead of listening to music build you up to a new person.
